תקציר

The Local Law under Rome project seeks to examine the affinities between various legal traditions in the Roman Empire. Arguably, within this imperial reality, the interpretation of any single legal tradition requires familiarity with the surrounding traditions, to identify dimensions of influence and integration. However, any attempt to find connections between different texts is particularly complex due the multiple languages involved and the diverse genres of legal texts. To address this challenge, we developed a method that integrates text embedding with additional comparative dimensions: Legal Topics, Keywords and Index terms. Annotations for each dimension are represented by a separate vector, and the distance between texts is calculated for each one. A weighted average then allows us to identify "close" texts by taking all dimensions into account. A dedicated interface enables users to select various combinations of these methods to surface significant links between different legal cultures.
